doing it with a celebrity...so bad it's good

when i first heard that some schmuck thought up a show where professional dancers ( and later figure skaters) would partner up with a "celebrity" (i use this term loosely...drew lachey, deborah gibson, todd bridges !?!?!) risking injury or at the very least utter humliation (poor ashley delgrosso. she had to peform for weeks with master "no rythym, didn't even try, no talent" p), i was to say the least, not excited. however this hasn't stopped me from making both dancing with the stars , and skating with celebrities part of my weekly tv schedule. my mom and i watch them together. it's sort of like bonding. these shows are so bad, they are good...american culture at it's finest. i have my favorites too. drew lachey is actually a very good dancer, and tia carrere is so beautiful. she just had a baby, and she looks radiant. over at the ice rink, jillian barbarie can do more than be obnoxious at 7am, and debbie, i mean, deborah gibson was so cute with h

i'm sooooooo not internet savvy

after a few hours of messing around with colors (while i am supposed to be 100% concentrated on work. right.) this is what i came up with for the blog. i still haven't figured out how to change the green to dark turquoise of my links, but it's a start. enventually, i want to find a cool graphic for my header....somthing to do with "just say no to crappy beer" mixed in with my other main interest, pop culture. well, i'll keep working at it, but until then a few observations about what i tuned into on tv last night. -why can't i stop watching american idol? i know it's sooooooo staged, and i get mad at who ends up winning every year....but i'm addicted, and strangely attracted to simon cowel...WTF IS WRONG WITH ME? one thing that has changed about how i feel about idol since last season is Ryan Seacrest. after listening to kathy griffin tear him a new one (and with good reason. the bastard humliated, degraded, and pretty much molested her at the american

it's self portrait tuesday : personal history the time: jan/feb 2001 the place: arcata, california the people: jessica (left) margaret (me, right) age: 20 when i look at this picture i think about how close i came to never knowing this girl. i left humboldt after my first year because i was unhappy. i chose to live with my older sister in this awesome house my first year of college because it was more cost effective. I used that house as a safety net, and i never stepped out of that net to try and make friends. i became lonely and miserable. i was convinced that being in humboldt was making me that way, so i left. after a summer at home, i reconsidered, and somehow everything just fell into place. jessica and i met at humboldt state university in the year 2000. we both moved into this crazy house around the same time as another girl named stephanie. we formed this little family and despite the condition of our little house, and out lack of funds, and the fights we would get into, i

self portrait tuesday

while looking through a photo album with my good friend emily, she pointed out how neat this picture is. sometimes it takes a fresh set of eyes with a different perspective to make you see how special something really is. grandma murtha. late 30s/early 40s. capitola beach. capitola, california. my family has owned a house there for almost 100 years. i spent most of my summers there as a child. Capitola is a beach resort town that has a rich history that i am proud to say my family is a part of. i have a love/hate relationship with the place (mostly stemming from the parking situation, run-ins with the local meter maids, and some annoying tourists) but i consider myself fortunate to have use of the house at will. the house was owned by my maternal grandmother, and since my mother and her mother were as close as could be, we would go over there with her for most of the summer, plus many weekends throughout the year. i feel a connection to the house and the town so deep that when my famil

i use my gap card to buy stuff at old navy

i may be banned for life from ever having an old navy card again, but i can still charge stuff from there with my gap card. thank god! i am such an old navy whore. sure there stuff probably comes from the fingers of 10 year old sweat shop workers, but these days, what doesn't? and so what if it isn't as hip as urban outfitters, it's basically the same shit anyways. long story short, i must have this ....in fact, i want all three. see, i'm not only an old navy whore, i'm a handbag whore as well!

seth cohen continues to give hope to comic book nerds everywhere

Image
little anna has decided that she just can't get enough of the seth cohen. perezhilton.com one of my favorite celeb gossip sites is reporting that samaire armstrong will return to the oc this april as part of a multi-episode run. i suppose this means all you fairweather oc fans will be heading back to your couches.....who knows maybe she will be able to breathe some life back into the show. it has seen better days :(

self portrait tuesday

my friend insurgentmuse takes part in a photo project called self portrait tuesday and since this month's theme is personal history, i decided to post this picture of me taken when i was about 2 years old. Luckily, my family loves taking pictures, and we have plenty of albums to track our personal history. looking through my parents old albums is a favorite activity of mine. it always makes me think of the simon and garfunkel song that goes..."time it was, and what a time it was....a time of innocence...a time of confidences....long ago it must be, i have a photograph. preserve your memories, they're all that's left you." i certainly do :) ps. on a related note, i really need to buy a scanner so that i can share more of my personal history. the 80s were such a glorious time in fashion!

dancing my way into 2006

i hope everyone had a fun and lively new years! i celebrated with my good friend emily, her sister celeste, and some of their friends at their parents house. we did a little salsa dancing, and now i'm addicted. it's a lot of fun and a great workout too. btw, do people even try to make resolutions anymore? i really want to think of a good one for this year and really stick to it. i always come back to wanting to loose weight and get healthy. With age 25 staring me in the face, i can think of no better time to finally make it happen. Here we go kids, 2006 is going to be a crazy year!
