Deck the Hallows

Image
It's my favorite time of the year! Between Halloween and Christmas, there isn't much that can bring me down. The cooling of the air, the falling of the leaves, the festive decorations. I love every minute of it! One of the perks of working at a theatre around Halloween, is that you get access to the costume closet. This morning I got to search the racks, and there was much to look at and choose from. My costume is already in progress, but a few flashy additions couldn't hurt :) Being that Halloween is on Friday, this week's edition of erractic behavior will be partially ruled by All Hallows Eve a fellow dj friend was kind enough to lend me a special LP for the occasion. Tune in Thursday from 10pm-2am for all the halloweenie fun!

last night the DJ saved my life

Image
taken @ mission ale house - 2005 Whew! After a slow, nearly two week process of moving into my new place, I needed a release. That came to me in the form of my friend melanie's houseparty birthday bash, and DJ pete beat. Pete (a friend and co-worker) put together a special early 90s hip hop mix for the ocassion. That, combined with mel's special peachy pinnapple vodka punch ( with frozen peach quarters!), kept my booty shakin' all night long. After a late night out, the natural thing to do would be to get up at 8am, right? Normally I wouldn't even consider it, but when your family gets tickets to a 49er game, and they want to tailgate before hand, well, you get up at 8am. Did someone say mimosas? While the game itself was a bust, we had a nice sunny day out at candlestick. I even spray painted my hair for the festivities. pics to come. tonight is a new episode of mad men . I can't say enough about this show. the acting! the dialogue! the costumes and set design! i c...

I'm really happy, and here's why:

One great weekend. I'm almost completely moved into the new place. Plus, I took to Capitola for some good food, booty shaking, and a little R & R. Back in newapartmentland, I spent the night for the first time last night. me and the roomie went grocery shopping and made our first dinner together, which we shared over an old episode of Grey's Anatomy. I have discovered, much to my dismay, that our downstairs neighbor either likes to fall asleep with tv blaring, or stays up really late. either way, earplugs might be in order. It's a good thing me any my roommate decided to get cable, because I have become obsessed with food network , and specifically, guy fieri . He has 3 shows on the network, guy's big bite , Guy Off the Hook (the one where he does it with the audience...cooking that is, you dirty bird!), and the one that began the whole infatuation, my super fave, diners, drive-ins, and dives I totally want to have my own show on food network where I get in an old...

a costume contest

Image
with Halloween fast approaching, I need to pick a costume and fast. I have a few ideas, but I can't decide. wanna help me? the frontrunner: Millificent from Sleeping beauty . The villainess of epically evil proportions! She is my all time fave, and I need to go to Disneyland on Halloween one day, so that I can take a picture with her the runner up: Ursula from The Little Mermaid . Equally diabolical, but not quite as fabulous. I think I thought of this one because our physical similarities cannot be denied. the long shot: Sally O'Malley. The sassiest 50 year old to kick and stretch and kick in a red pantsuit since Jack Lelane! I probably won't go with this one, but we started talking about it at work, and how fricken funny would it be. seriously!?!?! observe: the dark horse: oh, elton! a crazy hat, some sparkly sunglasses, platforms, and a feather boa, is all i'd need on Halloween to let everyone know that the bitch is back! so which gets your vote?!?!

nights in crapdanthe

Image
ohhhhh, this could have been such a goooooood movie. gere. lane. they have the talent. they have the heat. damn the marketing geniuses behind nights in rodanthe . when i saw that trailer, as sappy as i knew it was probably going to be, i fell for it hook, line, and sinker. There is something about romantic dramas that appeal to the estrogen flowing through my veins. What can I say, I like a good cry. I did not, however, cry while watching this depressing piece of garbage. I was too busy snickering at the uber cheesy dialogue, and straight up laughing out loud at most of the ludicrous plotline. The trailer made it look so goooood, though! now if you are looking for a good romance, and you don't mind the drama, I suggest: 1) the prince of tides 2) terms of endearment 3) the notebook 4) something's gotta give 5) spanglish and just entering the club: since i got it from netflix on saturday, I have watched it twice. I watched it twice in the movie theatre, and will be buying it a...

moving day

as of 5:30 this evening, i will officially be a resident of willow glen i'm droping off the first rent check, picking up the key, and hauling the first of my belongings up to the apartment. My new roomie is a good friend, and I know we are going to have awesome time. Although I wasn't as prepared as I would have liked, and it will be a few weeks before I'm truly settled, I still couldn't be more excited. In the midst of all this moving chaos, I will be taking a short road trip to The Oregon Shakespeare Festival , to check out Othello and Our Town this weekend. I so need this little excursion. It's going to be a nice break, and a chance to catch up with some old friends.

Lebowski me, baby

Image
One of my favorite films of all time, the big lebowski turns 10 this year. Over the years, it has eclipsed even it's own cult status to become a way of life . It has inspired Halloween costumes: my friend John at my party last year , festivals , books I wonder what it is about this film that has made it such a phenomenon. The bowling? the characters? the performances? the fashion? whatever the reason, the dude continues to abide.

The Vinyl Frontier

Ever since I bought a new, smaller turntable, I have become obsessed with buying vinyl again. My stacks are starting to outgrow the milk crates I keep them in, so i'm putting this on my wishlist. As far as the collection goes, I still buy cheap records at thrift stores, but I've also started buying new things on vinyl. One of my recent purchases features Bang Bang (my baby shot me down) by Nancy Sinatra. Ever since I discovered the track a few months ago in the kfjc library, I have not been able to get enough of it. I guess Sonny Bono wrote it for Cher, but I'm not sure if she ever recorded it. But back to the great record organization of 2008, since becoming a staff member at kfjc, I have become accustomed to the way we file the records. First there are two main libraries, A and B. These are Pop /Rock/ Punk/ Experimental recordings separated into current (A), and stuff that may have been cutting edge at one time, but is now more mainstream (B). Next, there are smaller ...

NEWMAN

Image
noooooooooooooo. paul newman died! what can you say about a legend? from his acting , to his charity work, newman's own (whose proceeds all went to charity), a passion for speed, the love for his wife. "Why fool around with hamburger when you have steak at home?" - on adultery an all time favorite quote of mine. a gorgeous man. a fanatastic human being. watch cat on a hot tin roof .you'll fall in love. watch hud . you'll hate him, but you'll still love him. it's paul newman . he did live a full life, but still, so sad.

ch ch cha changes

changes are afoot, my friends. changes are afoot. first, and least earth shattering: a new look for the blog. you likey? next, and most core shaking: i am moving in two weeks. I am very excited...and a total wreck. I haven't had much time to clean my room, let alone pack up it's entire contents for the trek to Willow Glen. Let me just say, however, i am super stoked about the apartment, my roommate, and our new neighborhood. Willow Glen is one of those areas where people know each other, and you look out for your neighbors. It's a real 50s throwback with bungalow style houses and tree lined streets. I can't wait to hang at farmers market, pick up sandwiches at La Villa Deli, and soak up my hangovers at Bill's Cafe. I have been having severe bike envy, and Willow Glen is a great neighborhood for sunny day bike rides. last, and most necessary: I need to get back of track with the weight watch. I should be on week 15 or something, but with being so busy, I have a bevy ...

weight watch: weeks 6-8

i've lost it. my motivation. my mind, too. maybe. the one good thing i have done in the lost couple of weeks is that i went back to the meeting. now i just need to get back my positive eating habits....and some of that motivation that is so darn important. stress and depression over my lack of a romantic social life can be real a detriment to motivation, i have decided. fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. i'm just going to say it : i'm lonely and i want to date. i don't think i'm in the right place emotionally for a really serious relationship, but a little long- overdue romance would be nice. I do have a few things to look foward to. I will probably have a new homebase in a few months. With that I hope to become more active around my future neighborhood. bike rides, picture taking, farmers market, twlight strolls along the tree lined streets. yes.

weight watch week 5-6

Image
i didn't go to weight watchers this week. i lost the 1.2 pounds I had gained 2 weeks ago, last week. I took a lot of motivation away from the meeting, and hit the gym 2 days a in a row. I was eating really well, and following all the good eating guidelines. The came the weekend. yes. i hate weekends. i can not keep it together on the weekend. I was plenty active. I danced pretty hard 2 nights in a row. I went for a nice long walk/ jog on the beach. but there was the pizza...and the beer and margaritas...and the carne asada breakfast burrito. wtf?!?!..and the really good potato salad...and the oreos...ok i'll stop now. i got on the scale this evening, and decided to stay home and watch the olympics. I need to find my superhero. i need to save me from myself. my good friend, KC (crowcrastination.blogspot.com) posted a link to marvel comics on her amazing blog. the link:http://marvelkids.marvel.com/create_your_own_superhero. you should look at her blog, though. A-MAZ-ING writer. a...

weight watch week 4, or the week when carrie fisher threw confetti at me

that's right princess leia herself showered me with colorul confetti. but first things first. I gained 1.2 pounds. this is not the end of the world. i know what i did. i ate crap that makes you gain 1.2 pounds. i need to will myself into the gym at least 3 times a week or this is never going to work. i have the healthy eating thing down. at least during the week. at work. i have the water thing down. i now have an excuse to get up from my desk every 1.5 to 2 hours. the water cooler is in the breakroom. this breakroom is out the door, thru the stairwell, down the hallway, past the bathroom(where a pre or post water pit stop usually takes place), and through the "shop" where all the sets are constructed. This is a nice break from work, and usually takes between 5-10 minutes. Honestly, I did really good this week. I was eating good, getting plenty of water, I feel as though I will probably loose between 2-3 pounds this week. not bad. could be better. i probably went overboar...

weight watch week 3

pounds lost : 8.5 so last week was so/so. i knew i hadn't been as strict as I had been the first week, but i still managed to drop another 3.5 pounds. As this week started, things were looking good. i went to the gym on monday night, and i really wanted to go another 2 times during the week. that never happened. let me start by saying that i like to go to the gym at night, generally 1 hour before they close. There are less people there and the machines i want to use are open. this also happens to be when i am the most busy socially. laziness + offers from friends to hang + radio station meetings and nighttime show = 1 trip to the gym per week X( DOH! Then there was the food. i went to the boardwalk on tuesday. it was $.75 night, and for dinner i had a corndog and fries, for dessert, cotton candy and a chocolate dipped soft serve ice cream cone. We did walk around a lot, so at least I burned some of it off. maybe. on thursday, a co workers b-day brought pizza and cake. really yummy ...

weight watch : week 2

weight loss to date : 5lbs so week 1 went pretty well. I can already tell I feel better, I have not had any pain in my leg, and my ankels have stayed pretty well unswollen. I shopped for the week at Trader Joes, and some of my favorite finds were the 6 pack of mini baguettes, 3 layer hummus dip (original, cilantro, spicy), reduced guilt sea salt pita chips, organic stawberries, multigrain toaster waffles, tropical and strawberry frozen fruit juice bars, pear and champagne vinegarette dressing, fat free feta cheese, and the ham and gurrere with carmelized onions thin crust pizza. I told the meeting leader at WW as I weighed in that I wasn't as dilligent as I was the first week of my first time there last year. I faced some challenges. Friday there was a pizza / cake party at work. The pizza turned out to be pretty gross, so I only had 1 1/2 small pieces. However, the cake was to die for, so I had to have a slice. I requested it be small, which it was, but still it wasn't that sm...

weight watch : week 1

in an effort to keep myself motivated and in control of my latest weight loss endeavor, I've decided that I'm going to blog about it. In thinking about the bad habits that have directly contributed to me putting back on the 35 pounds I lost last year, I safely say can say that I have: 1. portion control issues 2. a fast food addiction 3. an overwhelming urge to snack at night 4. equal weaknesses for cheese, ice cream, bacon, and donuts 5. a strong sense of denial when it comes to alcohol's contribution to sed weight gain. I would like to say that "this time things are going to be different" or " I feel more motivated than ever before", but at this point, I'm still a little skeptical. However, the fact remains that I am not healthy. I'm getting older, I have been having constant pain in my right leg, and my ankles swell on an almost daily basis. I have been overweight most of my life, but I have been active. This is the first time where I feel ...
